How Often Should You Get a Facial?

How Often Should You Get a Facial?

How often should you get a facial? For most women, the answer can range from every two weeks to every few months, depending on what you want your facials to do for you.

Someone actively working on acne may come in every two to four weeks for a period of time. Someone maintaining healthy skin may come every four to eight weeks or seasonally. And someone who considers her facial an important part of taking care of herself may decide that once a month is exactly right.

There isn't one correct schedule. But there are some useful guidelines.

If You're Working on Active Acne: Every 2–4 Weeks

When we're actively trying to get breakouts under control, more frequent appointments can be helpful.

A facial every two to four weeks gives us regular opportunities to address congestion, calm inflammation, support the skin barrier, and see how your skin is responding to your home-care routine.

That doesn't mean you'll need that frequency forever.

As your skin becomes more manageable, we can usually begin putting more time between appointments. Acne is something we manage rather than cure, so the long-term schedule may look very different from the schedule we use while you're actively breaking out.

If You're Correcting Pigmentation, Texture, Scarring, or Visible Aging: About Every 4–6 Weeks

Corrective skincare usually works best as a process rather than a single appointment.

If we're working on pigmentation, uneven texture, acne scarring, or more noticeable signs of aging, treatments may initially be scheduled around four to six weeks apart, depending on what we're doing.

Some treatments can be performed closer together. Others need more recovery time. I may also rotate different treatments rather than repeatedly doing the same thing.

The important part is allowing enough time for your skin to respond to one treatment before asking it to do something else.

Sometimes more support is needed to get better correction.

If You're Maintaining Your Skin: Every 4–8 Weeks

Maybe you don't have a major concern you're trying to fix. You simply want to keep your skin healthy, address little changes as they appear, and continue taking good care of it as you age.

A facial every four to eight weeks can work well for maintenance.

Your appointments might focus on exfoliation one month, hydration and barrier support another, or something more corrective when your skin needs it.

If you're consistent with your skincare at home and your skin is doing well, you may decide you don't need to come quite that often.

If You Prefer Seasonal Maintenance: Every 3 Months

Four facials a year can also be a perfectly reasonable skincare schedule.

Skin doesn't behave exactly the same way in January as it does in July. Temperature, humidity, sun exposure, travel, and changes in your routine can all affect what it needs.

A facial about once every three months gives you an opportunity to check in with your skin as the seasons change and make adjustments when necessary.

This can be especially practical for someone with healthy skin and a solid home-care routine who wants professional care without committing to frequent appointments.

If Your Facial Is Part of How You Take Care of Yourself: Monthly

There is another reason to get a facial that has nothing to do with correcting pigmentation or increasing collagen.

You enjoy it.

For some women, a monthly facial is one of the few appointments on the calendar where nothing is being asked of them.

You don't have to make decisions. You don't have to take care of anyone else. You get to lie down, close your eyes, and have someone take care of you for an hour.

If that time helps you feel better mentally and physically, that's a perfectly valid reason to make a facial part of your monthly routine.

Your skin still benefits from professional care, but skin correction doesn't have to be the only measure of whether your appointment was worthwhile.

If You Have an Event Coming Up: Schedule Around the Event

Skin preparation for an event is a little different because frequency isn't really the question. Timing is.

At Esthi Skincare, the 60-minute Event Facial can be scheduled the day before or even the day of an event when you want refreshed, hydrated skin without downtime.

The 75-minute option includes bio-microneedling and is better suited to a weekend-long event, with about 24 hours allowed for minor downtime beforehand.

If you have several important events throughout the year, these treatments can simply be added to your normal facial schedule when you need them.

If you're preparing for an important event with lots of photos, like your wedding, it's helpful to start thinking about your skin 6–12 months beforehand, especially if you'd like to improve acne, scarring, or pigmentation. That gives us time to work on those concerns gradually rather than trying to make significant changes right before the event.

You May Move Between These Schedules

Your ideal facial frequency isn't something you have to decide once and follow forever.

You might come every few weeks while we're actively working on a concern, move to every six or eight weeks once your skin is doing well, or eventually decide seasonal appointments are enough.

Or you might finish your corrective work and keep coming every month because you've discovered that having that time to yourself makes your life better.

Both make sense.

How often you get a facial should reflect what you're asking that appointment to do for you—whether that's changing your skin, maintaining it, preparing for something special, or simply having regular time when you're the one being cared for.
